This collection of essays, edited by Thomas Kroll and Frank Jung, addresses the impact of political and civil ideas developed in the Italian Enlightenment on the 18thcentury European debate as well as the Italian reception of radical ideas. The volume under review proves that familiar and time-honored categories like "the circulation of ideas" are still useful hermeneutical tools: however, they should be constantly redefined in order to enhance their interpretive potential.

Keywords: Enlightenment, Circulation of ideas, Radicalism, Secularisation.
