In this paper we analyze the basic elements of the transformation of the territorial structure and of the economic and social local development. These elements are defined through appropriate break variables, which cover different thematic and reference areas of the development planning, and allow to specify local complexities encountered at the Italian provincial level.
Methods and Results
These break variables are analyzed following a spatial methodological approach, applying exploratory techniques, with the aim to analyze the presence of global and local spatial autocorrelation and spatial heterogeneity in the Italian provinces.
Conclusions
Empirical results show that Italian Provinces are characterized by socio-economic phenomena very different locally. Therefore, this complexity should be appropriately considered in the definition of local growth policies.
