This paper aims at drawing attention on the features of L’Aquila territory before the 2009 earthquake. The analysis focuses, primarily, on the urbanization processes that have affected the extra-moenia development of L’Aquila urban system, between the ’50 and 2008. Secondly it describes - though the study of the spatial and morphological characteristics of some representative settlement types - the peculiar dispersed dimension that characterizes L’Aquila urban landscape.
