The paper presents a reflection on intermunicipal cooperation and on the renewed role of municipalities in the changing context of territorial transformations starting from the identification of three models drawn from the current panorama of inter-municipal policies and practices in Italy. In particular, it focuses on the current forms of cooperation between municipalities in the field of planning of periurban agricultural areas with the purpose of determining the efficacy of local inter-institutional action regarding agriculture development in periurban contexts.
