In the volume Oltre la legalità ("Beyond legality"), the legal historian and former president of the Italian Constitutional Court Paolo Grossi questions some of the pillars of the modern legal systems: namely, the principle of legality and the traditional principle of separation of powers. In so doing, the author highlights how the juridical dimension stretches well beyond the very limited realm of legality, to be replaced by the wider concept of rule of law.
