In this article we attempt a comparison on the complex concept of forgiveness between two significant thinkers of the 20th century, Jacques Derrida and Paul Ricœur, of which we examine the tortuous paths – especially Derrida’s –, their affinities and diver- gences: it is a matter of unraveling a skein, difficult to untangle, but which shows the richness of the question and shows how prismatic and significant that concept is. In fact, the essay also analyzes the concept of restorative justice, which leads to the theme of the gift, treated by both philosophers. The gift will emerge at the center of a dialectic of past and future in a logic of overabundance.
