The essay reconstructs the evolution of Italian historiography on the United States of America in the last twenty years, recalling previous phases and emphasizing historiographical and methodological continuities and ruptures. Particular attention is paid to the internationalization phase of the discipline and its consequences, the transnational dimension and the many cultural and scientific activities conducted by Associations and Interdepartmental Centers. The final part is devoted to the agency of new generations.
