Over time, the concept of mobility has evolved into that of «service», which integrates the principles of environmental sustainability and efficiency of the transport system. Mobility needs have changed and nowadays we prefer to speak of a «right to mobility» (not just freedom of movement). Recently, technological developments and digitisation have played a role in urban mobility and are instrumental in meeting multimodal mobility needs and environmental concerns. This has led to the development of sharing mobility and the new MaaS (Mobility as a Service) system, which provides an alternative to the use of the private car and traditional non-integrated public transport systems, using more sustainable vehicles and creating a more innovative, efficient and functioning mobility network that is also inclusive. These new systems, and especially MaaS, can facilitate and simplify people’s mobility, thus promoting the exercise of the right to mobility.
