Reference is made to this edition for a complete indication of the eliminations and additions found in La storia ridotta sotto il concetto generale dell’arte (1893), La critica letteraria. Questioni teoriche (1894) and in the other writings collected in the book. In the article readers will find an interpretive reconstruction of the essays chosen for the small volume that appeared in 1896 under the title Il concetto della storia nelle sue relazioni col concetto dell’arte. As is inevitable, some quotations used in the Note to Primi saggi have been included in sections 3-5 of this article, where they are recast within a different discourse.
