The essay examines the enhancement of worker’s psycho-physical abilities made possible by biotechnological and pharmacological means, with the aim of assessing its practicability within the employment contract and in the labour market. The analysis begins with the premise that the principles affirmed by Supreme Courts, which support enhancement in civil society by emphasizing the individual’s right to self-determination, cannot be directly transposed into the contractual working relationship. After providing a brief taxonomy of the phenomenon, the paper addresses the legal and conceptual concerns regarding the compatibility of enhancement in the workplace, distinguishing between cases where enhancement is undertaken voluntarily by the worker and those in which the worker resorts to enhancement at the employer’s request.

Keywords: Body; Object of the employment contract; Human enhancement; Biotechnologies; Costitution compatibility; Self-determination; Enhancement chosen or imposed (on the worker).
