In the Anglophone world, the first English translation of La production de l’espace (1974), published in 1991 by Blackwell, radically changes the debate in spatial studies. This led to the emergence of the “spatial turn” in the field of social and human sciences. The aim of this article is to provide readers with an analysis of the origin and development of the “spatial turn” and its connections to postmodernism, while demonstrating the theoretical errors that have led some authors to interpret Lefebvre in a postmodern light.
Keywords: Production of space; Henri Lefebvre; spatial turn; postmodernism; Marxism.
