Social mixing policies constitute a mainstream approach in stigmatised contexts characterised by the concentration of "problematic" groups, including immigrants. International literature has critically analysed these initiatives, challenging also spatial justice principles mobilized to justify them. Based on the Italian context, the article considers mixing policies also as a product of literature’s narratives of deprived neighbourhoods, reflecting on some research and practices aimed at overcoming the mainstream approach.
