The paper describes an exploratory phenomenographical study with five el-derly men and women of 74-94 years of age. The study was aimed at assessing the criteria for an intervention in nursing care based on the narration of the self to an interviewer or in small group. Participants registered an improvement in the degree of perceived wellbeing and in participation in social activities. Critical and methodological issues of interventions in nursing homes are discussed.
