The paper moves from the observation of the constitutive polysemy of the concept of co-development and, more specifically, it focuses on how the ideo-logical reference to the notion of ethnic community prevents us from reading the emancipatory and subjectivizing potential of this perspective. In this direc-tion, the recent critical reflection on multiculturalism and, more specifically, the proposal for overcoming it which has been offered through the concepts of super-diversity and hyper-diversity are of great help. Considering these prem-ises, the second part tries to use these new lenses to analyze some co-development projects promoted and implemented within the framework of a regional public policy (Tuscany Region). We will see how the use of these new categories allows the disambiguation of the strategies mobilized by different networks of subjects with a migratory background referring to the original conceptual container of co-development.
