Le interpretazioni e le ipotesi di scenario attualmente più diffuse individuano nella «strategia del coinvolgimento» il mutamento principale e comune ai vari sistemi nazionali di relazioni industriali.
L'analisi condotta sugli Usa, da un gruppo di lavoro costituito da ricercatori dell'Isvet e della Industrial Relations Section del MIT, ha consentito di cogliere cause e possibili sviluppi delle trasformazioni in atto in connessione con i mutamenti strutturali dell'impresa e del mercato del lavoro,di approfondire innovazioni contrattuali specifiche (garanzia occupazionale, sistemi retributivi, formazione) e di verificare le reali dinamiche nell'impresa (AT&T), nel sindacato (UAW) e a livello di sistemi locali.
