In the twentieth century, the issue of green spaces has become increasingly important as a response to the problems of environmental pollution and climate change. The role of green spaces has changed, becoming more and more central to the health and well-being of citizens. Over the years, since the period of industrialisation, their importance within urban planning has grown to the point of being regulated by specific documents such as the Strategic Environmental Assessment. The aim of this article is to re-read the evolution of green space planning in Legnano, providing an effective picture of the ‘environmental transition’ that has taken place and is still taking place.
Keywords: urban history; masterplan; urban green
