What role does gender play in the study of a phenomenon as complex as fascism, and how much space is given in the extensive historiography on historical fascism to those who adopt gender as a “useful category of historical analysis”? This literature review examines a selection of themes, and comments on recent research that demonstrates the vitality and variety of issues and approaches in the study of fascism from a gender perspective. The article thus provides reflections on new trends in the history of Italian fascism from a gender perspective, offers some insights into potential future research directions, and presents some final considerations on the state of gender history of fascism in Italy.
