The themes and priorities of the Strategy for the Alpin region (eusalp) are explored by crossing objectives and actions of new infrastructure development and digitalization, and of environment and landscape protection and enhancement (promoted by European cooperation policies) with the definition of a spatial approach. The mapping of the Valtellina Mountain area and the interaction with local actors allow to outline a territorial figure, aimed to support the deepening of overarching cohesion policies, as well as the coordination of their local implementation. In such trajectory, the role of university arises in the definition of ‘territorial’ transition strategies, and in the implementation of placebased initiatives of innovation.
