The conditions for promoting a ‘postcar’ transition in highly cardependent territories – such as periurban and lowdensity settlement areas – are challenged by spatial and socioeconomic factors, transport supply limitations, and ingrained mobility habits. This section presents preliminary results from the Prin_Recap research project, which investigates the forms and degrees of car dependency in three periurban and mountain contexts in Northern Italy (Unione Montana del Pinerolese, Bassa Pianura Bergamasca, and the SchioMontebelluna corridor). The study employs a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods to address the processual and multidimensional nature of car dependency, focusing on sociospatial dynamics, infrastructure provision, and individual mobility preferences.
