Mountain areas generally feature low density, fragmentation, and dispersion of destinations, which, together with their geomorphologic conformation, make the car an oftenindispensable means of transport. This article presents an analysis of car dependency in the Unione montana del Pinerolese, in the Metropolitan city of Turin. The results show that this dependency is strong throughout the Union; at the same time, it takes on different forms depending on the factors (transport supply, characteristics of the settlement system, sociodemographic elements) underlying it. Profiling these different declinations of car dependency is essential for designing effective policies to tackle it.
