The article illustrates theoretical framework and methodology underlying to the Professions Survey carried in 2006-2007 by Istat-Isfol. After discussing shortly the economic, sociale and political context in which the trasformations of work has developed and the reasons of the difficulties of representation, the article focuses on main objectives and methodological elements and features of Professions Survey. The analysis then continues with an overview of main results of Profession Survey in order to reflect on requirements of competences in italian labour market.
