Il 29 dicembre 2001 il giudice Mokthar Yahyaoui è stato destituito dalla sua carica dal Consiglio di disciplina della magistratura della Tunisia. Poco tempo prima egli aveva denunciato pubblicamente il deficit di indipendenza della giustizia nel suo Paese.
