Nowadays, the evaluation of the performance in the healthcare system is needed to guide policy-makers and to make clear the results to the citizens. In this work, the international, national and regional experiences are outlined. Among the national experiences, we have described the monitoring system of the Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA), the Outcomes National Program (PNE) and the new National System of Quality Assessment under development. Moreover, we have described the features of performance evaluation of health regional systems
