Achille Mapelli (1840-1894) is certainly one of the most influential personalities of Monza during Risorgimento Era. His tenacious activism alongside Garibaldi in 1860, 1862, 1866 and 1867 gives him reputation and public appreciation. This article proposes, using sources from Fondo Mapelli (Biblioteca civica di Monza), to observe how a personal experience "in red shirt" and the affective life could cohabit. The aim is to show how many difficulties, in his relationship with family, friends and fiancée, Achille Mapelli had in choosing to join his General and follow his ideals
