Commonly conceived only as a conflict resolution method, Mediation is instead a multifaceted reality, like a Kaleidoscope. Without any claim of being comprehensive, this paper highlights the richness such powerful method of constructive dialogue between parties in conflict has gained so far, not only during, but even before and after disputes arise. A general classification is offered, based on: time of intervention, mediator’s approach, the presence of a service provider, the subjects and areas of law involved.

Keywords: Areas of intervention, types, mediation, mediator’s approach, temporal perspective
