This work is about the importance of the development or reinforcement of the Self in the treatment of patients with problems of narcissism and addiction. After introducing the clinical assumptions underlying the use of a short or time limited psychodynamic group strategy in the treatment of psychoactive substance dependence, we present and comment on a ten-year experience with short and time limited groups at the Mestre’s (Ve) Service for Dependences (SerD) from 2000 to 2010. We examine the follow-up results of 2011, addressed to the Groups for the Renewal of Functions (GRF). The results show a narcissistic growth associated with the significant improvement of some socio-demographic and clinical variables, such as significant of close friendships and socio-recreational interests, family conflict perceived, addiction relapses and the conclusion of the group.
Keywords: Addiction, Brief or time-limited psychodynamic psychotherapy, Thera-peutic latency, GRF.
