In 1992, the managerialization of the Italian National Health Service (INHS) marked the start of the application of New Public Management (NPM) in Italian healthcare, to which doctors are called to contribute. Today, thirty years later and due to the start of managerial training for NHS managers, one may wonder how much professional hybridisation has entered the habi-tus of Italian doctors. The hypothesis is that those who attend a managerial course have devel-oped the perception of a widespread hybrid professionalism that requires them specific train-ing. After reconstructing the context of the INHS by looking at the policies and strategies of implementation of the NPM, the article focuses on the process of constructing an ad hoc re-search tool and the results of an empirical research study in Marche Region. The data seems to confirm the initial hypothesis, although it is necessary to expand its scope in terms of the cases analysed and the areas of detection.
Keywords: Managerialization; health policy; professionalism; hybridization; managerial train-ing; empirical research.
