People with early-life mental disorders are at elevate risk (Relative Risk 4.2) of subsequent dementia and younger dementia onset (5.6 years). Particularly, the association between depression and dementia is discussed, because it is more investigated for the diffusion of depression in general and in elderly population. Findings from these studies on association between mental disorders and dementia suggest that ameliorating mental disorders treatment in early life might reduce risk of cognitive decline in elderly population.
