Within a city, space for photovoltaic panels is limited. Public infrastructures like stadiums offer a promising solution, as their roofs can host solar panels to generate renewable electricity for surrounding communities, in line with the concept of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs). This study focuses on the Olympic Stadium in Rome, exploring a new way to produce and share the electricity generated. Then, the energy output from photovoltaics was correlated with the stadium, streetlight, and household electrical energy demands. Results demonstrate the plant’s feasibility and its energy, economic, and environmental benefits.
Keywords: photovoltaic; renewable energy community; renewable energy; climate change; sport stadium; sustainability
