The “Philosophical Grammar”. The aim of this essay is to highlight the importance of Campanella’s theory of language as a means of reading the Great Book of Nature as written by the Divine Word. So Gram- mar has the task of elaborating forms of expression wich conform to the real things, and this by means of the faculties of sensus and mens and their forms of imagination, phantasia and imaginatio. These shape the sensitive data, deriving from the infarsi of man into nature, and transform it into word. Actually there is an ontologic analogy be- tween human being and things, for both are constituted by Divine Primalitates of Po- tentia, Sapientia and Amor. So the philosopher, and with him every man, created in the image and likeness of God, the Word who gave being to the world by naming it, can interact with things and create expressions in keeping with them and their essentia or quidditas.

Keywords: Tommaso Campanella, sensus, mens, phantasia, imaginatio, imitation, fiction.
