Maternal parenting stress and post-traumatic symptoms in children exposed to marital con-flict: A mediational model. In literature, the post-traumatic effects of domestic violence on children are well known, while the exploration of parenting stress as an explicative mecha-nism of these associations is a new direction of research. By considering this new direction of research, and the indications of the Cognitive Contextual Framework, the present study was carried out on 75 normative families. It was aimed to: 1) analyze the associations be-tween inter-parental conflict, post-traumatic symptomatology and maternal parenting stress; 2) evaluate the effects of the specific dimensions of maternal parenting stress (parental dis-tress, dysfunctional parent-child interaction and difficult child) on the children’s post-traumatic symptoms; and 3) explore whether the subjective appraisals of perceived threat and self-blame mediated these associations. Results showed that predictive effects of dysfunc-tional parent-child interaction on the post-traumatic and dissociative symptoms, anxiety and depression, through the mediation of perceived threat, and the predic-tive effects of parental distress on anger symptoms, through the mediation of self-blame.

Keywords: Inter-parental conflict, post-traumatic symptoms, parenting stress, perceived threat, self-blame.
