The Authors, after remembering the criticisms which for about thirty years have been done about PAS (Parental Alienation Syndrome), clarify in this work the necessity of a differential diagnosis when this case is hypothesized, because the consequences of pushing forward a false PAS are very serious for children and for the parents, up to configure real "abuse" but also for the ascertainment. Quite often in their experience, has been possible to highlight some pathologies which present the same symptoms of PAS, while having completely different etiology, and thus requiring some innovative measure of intervention.

Keywords: PAS, differential diagnosis, maltreatment, father figure psychopathology
