In the last decade, in response to an increasingly growing demand, the diagnostic imaging has undergone a significant development in terms of both technological innovation and volumes provided. Despite a systematic increase in supply, waiting times still represent a critical issue for all healthcare systems. What actions have been taken to reduce waiting times in the last 10 years? Most of the studies in literature focus on the saturation of production capacity, while still few studies have been carried out on demand management. The ultimate aim of the present work is to identify areas of intervention for the most appropriate health care management.

Keywords: Waiting times, diagnostic imaging, demand management, radiology workflow, prescription appropriateness, organizational solutions.
