Research on the lands of Lario in the first part of the nineteenth century, aimed at outlining its fundamental characteristics and in particular to develop reflections on the quality of life and public spirit in the province. We are accompanied by witnesses of the time, whose different attitudes help to solicit questions and answers, with the prospect of offering, ultimately, an insight into the local reality during the course of the kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia. The result will be a more articulate and dynamic picture than is sometimes believed, hary, to some extent, of long-term developments designed to change the face of the province.
