Due to a special regulatory framework, the deepest waters in the Adriatic Sea, and its connections with Central Europe and Tukey, the port of Trieste is the Northern gateway to the ‘Adriatic Corridor’. Over the last years, both public and private initiatives have been undertaken to increase the port performativity by expanding its infrastructural networks, upgrading logistics platforms, and strengthening productive activities. This article investigates ongoing transformations, and discusses how, when establishing new relations with global networks, contemporary logistics zones, such as the port of Trieste, are turning into composite and hybrid spaces.
Keywords: logistics infrastructures; urbanization processes; Trieste
