The issue of private and free TV networks in Italy summarises the incipient transition between two decades and two social models, as the hyper-politicisation stemming from ’68 and the hedonism of the roaring 1980s both coexist and dialogue in this sphere. The study aims to reconstruct the trajectory of this significant cultural and social transformation, retracing the crucial events of the years between 1972 and 1976, when Rai’s monopoly was broken and the first alternative experiences took place.
