When a city is awarded the status of Olympic host, one of the expected benefits is the catalytic effect on urban and transport-related projects. The underlying assumption is that organizing the Games can accelerate urban agendas and planning initiatives. In practice, however, the transport sector is often among the least advantaged by the Olympic legacy. This contribution examines the gap between expectations and actual legacy outcomes in the field of logistics and transportation, focusing on the case of Cortina 1956. This case presents several noteworthy specificities, including, most notably, the railway issue linked to proposed upgrades of the Dolomites Railway in anticipation of the Olympic events.
