The essay, taking its starting point from the crisis of the early 1990s af-fecting the postwar political system, will attempt to analyze synthetically the role played by the Italian Church under the «leadership» of Camillo Ruini, from the 1985 Loreto Ecclesial Convention in Loreto, in the complex events marking the collapse of the Christian democracy, the pivotal party in the post-war era.
