In spite of the importance of environmental sustainability and sprawl containment issues, regional transformations often disregard such goals, as in the context of the Veneto Region. Here, some projects are similar due to: 1. dimension 2. localization 3. actors involved 4. implementation process 5. conflicts. The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to describe some of these transformations, and secondly to suggest some considerations about the role of planning in managing such transformations.

Keywords: Regional transformations, regional planning, conflicts, intermunicipal action, public-private partnership, Veneto Region.
