The contribution points out the first results of the initiatives developed by Città Metropolitana di Milano over the last two years, implementing the project Welfare metropolitano e rigenerazione urbana, financed by a national program known as Bando Periferie. In this light, it describes the approach based on the idea of "metropolitan welfare" and the results of the exploration of ongoing projects and practices of urban regeneration in the metropolitan area.
