The concept of periphery proves to be complex and contradictory, with intercon- nected shades of meaning that do not allow a single definition. This article aims to produce a plural model describing the way in which peripheral territories self- define and conceptualise the periphery, by analysing local development strategies defined in the planning documents drawn up by the local actors of Inner Areas within the SNAI.

Keywords: peripheralisation; Inner Areas; local development strategies; self- definition of periphery.
