Parenting assessment conceived as a transformative process goes beyond the diagnostic moment, configuring itself as a pathway of awareness for the entire family system and allowing the observation of dynamics of interdependence and coordination among its members. The TIAP procedure was applied to 35 families in which episodes of child maltreatment had been reported; its application, illustrated through a clinical case, highlights the possibility of enhancing parental resources, considering the extended family context, observing co-parenting, and recognizing the active role of children. TIAP enables the observation of family relationships in action and fosters shared reflection on the functioning of the system, supporting the clinician in the construction of a clinical hypothesis based on a shared narrative that values the experience of being seen and recognized.
