The relationship between historiography and reality, between theory and praxis was crucial in Delio Cantimori’s thought. On this issue focuses Gennaro Sasso in his Delio Cantimori. Filosofia e storiografia. Vander tries to answer the same question as Sasso, i.e. is an «absolute historicity» possible? Is it possible an historiography without ideology, with no emotional participation by the historian? Vander is more radical than Sasso in pointing out the totalitarian nature of Cantimori’s thought (a man who was fascist, then joined nazi racism and finally turned to communism), as he believes that Cantimori’s search for «objectivity» reflected only his disregard for the reasons of human beings and of politics which was typical of his irrationalism.
