Despite the enormous bibliography on Fascism and Mussolini, a study on the attitude of the latter towards Hebraism has been missing until now. Fabre’s volume, well-documented and rigorous for what concerns historiographical data, dwells on Mussolini’s socialist beginnings, up to the years which followed the seizure of power: a new, historiographical sight emerges. In the young Mussolini’s papers, many anti-Semitic stereotypes are present, which was a common characteristic of the various Italian cultural areas of that period. As for the Mussolini of 1918-1921s, or better say, for what regards Fascism itself, anti-Semitic voices do not surely lack: a series of positions which will prevail at the end of 1930s, characterising the dramatic anti-Semitic turn of Fascist regime.
