The aim of the work is to study the obstacles to the implementation of open innovation in the banking industry and, at the same time, the possible benefits of its implementation. The paper specifically studies the role that firms accessing credit can play in the innovation process in banks’ lending technologies. The idea is that by improving the supply of services, especially digital, offered by banks, firms can become a primary source of valuable information whose process can reduce lending costs. The positive effects of open innovation would also be extended at macro level.

Keywords: Open innovation, banking sector, lending technologies.
