In this contribution, the transformations of work are analyzed with a main focus on white collars and knowledge workers. The authors discuss some of the sociological tools coming from Luciano Gallino’s writings, above all from the definitions collected in his Dictionary of Sociology, and then apply them to the changing scenario. In the new context, some of the assumptions have to be recalibrated, while other ones should be brought to the attention of empirical research.
