The "Parliamentary Commission on accidents and occupational diseases" in the Italian Senate has promoted an evaluation of the policies in its range of action. This, together with many other initiatives, acknowledges the growing interest shown by the Senate on the subject of evaluation. The Commission commissioned some CNR experts to initially launch a feasibility study and, subsequently, evaluate the incentives for safety investment in workplaces. The work presents not only the characteristics of the evaluation design (the study is not concluded) but above all the experience made in the relationship between the evaluator, the client and the managing body. The particular role of evaluation in the mission of the legislative bodies implies both specific characteristics of the evaluation itself and peculiarities in the relationship with the client that are examined in the essay.
