If France is experiencing the same difficulties as other European countries when it comes to finding solutions for the financing of old age schemes, the coexistence of a multiplicity of schemes, with their own rules and a strong sense of corporatism, makes it even more difficult to undertake reforms when the idea is to reach the same solutions for everyone in a spirt of equality and unity. Since French old age schemes are mainly funded by social security contributions, the first reaction to reach sustainability was to implement new funding methods. At the same time, French authorities put on the table two types of reforms, systemic and parametric.

Keywords: French social security; Old-age contributory schemes; Sustainability.
