This research investigates urban-rural threadlike systems, which develop, for thousands of kilometres, in a close network of hillside and valley bottom settlement filaments, over which the "Marche way to development" was structured. The paper proposes strategies and suggestions for a new economic-social development, a new city-countryside pact, a policy of saving and enhancement of local resources and a renewed model of life in these narrow rural and peri-urban fringes with a low level of anthropization and high environmental-landscape value.
