The paper reads the evolution of Sardinia in the last fifty years by paralleling between the rise of mass tourism with the legislation concerning spatial planning. The argument starts from the comparison between the situations recorded by the census of 1961 with that of 2011. In half century, the margin has become the core to the detriment of the internal areas. There has been a shift from an island inhabited mainly in the inland to an island where you live on the coast.
